QUE ES SALEM
Salem es
una ciudad ubicada en MassachuSets. Es
conocida por su patrimonio arquitectónico
y por haber sido en la antigüedad un puerto estratégico en el comercio con todo
el mundo.
Pero además de
todo esto se ha hecho famosa mundialmente por los juicios que tuvieron lugar en
el año 1692 donde hasta
150 personas fueron detenidas y encarceladas acusadas de brujería, denunciándose incluso casos
de alucinaciones y contactos demoniacos.
Desde ese momento
Salem es conocida como la ciudad de las Brujas.
Diversas teorías
han intentado explicar estos sucesos
pero lo cierto es que poco sabemos de lo que realmente ocurrió en este pequeño
pueblo costero en el año 1692
EN QUE NOS INSPIRA
Entre finales de
los 80, principios de los 90 surge una corriente gothic-grunge que une
influencias del post punk o gothic rock con el grunge.
A nivel estético aporta
la mezcla de Símbolos oscuros propios del esoterismo, tan presentes en grupos
como the cure, con la estética grunge propia de los años 90 (Nirvana o
Smashing Pumpkings) Cruces, calaveras, rosas o angeles junto con camisas de
franela, cazadoras oversize y pantalones rotos conforman un universo que nos
sirve como referente a la hora de customizar prendas vintage.
WHAT IS SALEM
Salem is a city in
Massachusetts, USA. It´s wellknown by its architectural heritage and was one of
the most significant seaports in early America.
Much of the city's cultural
identity is reflective of its role as the location of the Salem witch trials of 1692 where 150 people were
thrown in jail because of witch rituals, hallucinations and possessed contacts.
Since then Salem is known as "The Witch City".
Different theories has been
trying to explain these witch-related incidents but the truth is that we
don´t really know what exactly happened in this little seaside village in 1692.
WHAT INSPIRES US
Between late 80´s and early
90´s, a gothic-grunge trend come up that mix post punk or gothic rock with grunge.
This style mixes dark symbols
related with esotericism, used by the rock band “The Cure”, with grunge style
typical from the 90´s (Nirvana or Smashing Pumpkings) crosses, skulls, roses or
angels together with fannel shirt, oversize jackets and ripped pants make up an
universe that we use it like a model when it comes time to customize vintage clothing.
